GEWALTMONOPOL
"Gewaltmonopol" (English: “Monopoly on Violence”), is a sound performative act, audacious and grotesque, that redefines the intersection of live electronics, voice, and sound poetry on the themes of violence and control.
Using voice and body as dynamic instruments alongside live electronic processing, the performance creates moments of pure sound impact and physical exertion, with enigmatic acts of language that construct an open narrative.
In political philosophy, a "monopoly on violence" or "monopoly on the legal use of force" is the property of a polity that is the only entity within its jurisdiction to legitimately use force, and thus the supreme authority of that area. But what is the meaning of force and violence? What are their limits and domain areas?
The narration explores violence and control both in a physical sense, such as the performer's bodily control during a performance and conceptually, reflecting on how we communicate stories and impose narratives, prompting contemplation on the social implications of these concepts.
